Friends
Our motto is: To raise money AND have fun!

Who are we? - Every parent/carer is automatically a "Friend" of Alnwick South (FOAS), which is the school's
Parent/Teacher organisation, and a registered charity. We have a strong Committee of active volunteer
helpers which anyone is very welcome to join - the more the merrier!

What do we do? - We organise social, family-fun events throughout the year to raise funds to pay for extra
treats or essential equipment for the school.

Our regular events include a Halloween Disco, Christmas Family Party, Valentine's Disco, Bag2School
collections, Spring Fayre and a Summer BBQ.

What have we achieved? - This past year we have raised £5,000 to buy new books for the school library and
reading schemes to commemorate the school's Golden Anniversary in February 2005 which we also celebrated
with a special 1950's Prom Night disco, and 50th Anniversary mugs for each child. In recent years the Friends'
hard work has also paid for the Adventure Playground and flagstone path, a new shed for nursery garden,
fleece lined all in one waterproof suits for Early Years outdoor play, new playground markings, dictionaries for
all Year 4 Leavers, and wet weather indoor play equipment.

Fundraising goals for 2006/2007 include technology play equipment for the school and creating a sensory
room - but we're always open to new ideas and suggestions.

How do we do all this? - The new Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, a
friendly party with wine and cheese. Everyone is warmly invited to this so do please come along and find out
what we do - we really like to encourage new volunteers to join in.

Committee meetings are held up to three times a term generally on Mondays, 8pm in the Plough Inn. All Friends
are welcome to come along to these meetings - you don't have to be on the Committee to participate! Even if you
don't want to be a Committee member we are always needing extra helpers at our events so please do not
hesitate to get involved!

Contact us via the Friends pigeonhole (located on shelf outside the school office) and watch the class
noticeboards.
